What an ATS actually is
An ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is application-management software companies use to centralize, sort and filter incoming resumes. - Infographics, icons, or graphics containing text, often invisible to the parser
- Contact details placed only in a header or footer, sometimes skipped by certain extraction engines
- Exotic fonts or resumes exported from design tools like Canva or Figma, whose PDF encoding can be misread
- Overly creative section headings ("My journey" instead of "Professional experience") that the software can't map to any standard category

An ATS-friendly resume isn't a dull one. It's a resume whose structure serves the content instead of hiding it:

- Export as .docx or native text-based PDF (never a scanned image), with a readable font like Arial, Calibri, or Georgia at 10-12pt for body text
- Keywords from the target job reused as-is in your resume when they genuinely match your background: most modern ATS now use language-processing models capable of catching similar phrasing, but an exact keyword still parses more reliably than a synonym
- Quantified achievements rather than plain duty descriptions: "led a team of 12" or "cut costs by 30%" get picked up and valued more clearly, both by the software and by the recruiter reading it afterward
